There’s an old saying that goes, “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything!” And what a true statement that is!

Could you win an intelligent debate defending your position on education, on racism, politics, abortion, religion, recycling, wearing seatbelts in your car? How strong are your beliefs? A lot of people are easily swayed in their thinking. They kind of think what everyone else they know thinks.

But listen. You can’t really grow in your life until you first have something solid on which to stand. Think about the things that affect people’s lives. Collect accurate information, and carefully form responsible opinions.

Of course, if new information comes along, be willing to thoughtfully and responsibly adjust your thinking, if necessary. But at the same time, remember— shallow thinking only produces shallow lives.
