The Barbara Bush Story

In order to successfully merge onto a highway, you need a vehicle that can handle the job. Without it, you’d never have a chance at keeping up and holding your own in the stream of traffic. The same holds true for the information highway. Without a solid education and solid reading skills, you may as well be going down the road on a skateboard! It just doesn’t work.

Reading well puts you in touch with the world around you, and it helps make you marketable when it comes your turn to enter the work force. Being a good reader will also help give you a sense of personal well-being. The Declaration of Independence says that all men are created equal—but it’s difficult to feel equal when you’re less knowledgeable than those around you.

Reading is a gift meant for everyone. There’s no shame in asking for your share of that gift. But it will be a shame if you don’t.
