The Neil Armstrong Story

There was once a young mother I knew who bragged openly that her eleven-year-old daughter would someday own a ranch and raise horses for a living, and that her nine-year-old would become a famous race car driver. Never mind that the family lived in the inner-city and had never even been around horses and that the nine-year-old had never driven a car!

That mother convinced her children that those exciting careers were in their futures, but never offered a clue about how to achieve them. Well predictably, the daughter one day had her own daughter and lived in the same poverty in which she was raised. I don’t remember what happened to the son, but I know I’ve never heard his name mentioned on the NASCSR circuit!

Having long-term goals is essential to success in any field, but those goals must be realistic and based on personal talents and abilities, education and training, and commitment to follow through on making them happen!
