Life Lesson #33 – Don’t Limit Your Options.

On July 24th, 1936, a girl named Ruth Buzzi was born in Westerly, Rhode Island. (Although she likes to say she is from the very nearby town of Wequetequock, Connecticut, because it has such a funny sounding name!

Ruth always wanted to be an actress so while she was still very young, she took dance lessons and voice lessons. She also studied acting. And later she studied cosmetology just in case her ideas for acting didn’t work out. But because of her hard work and determination, they DID work out. When she was 19, she went to New York where she was hired for an off-Broadway musical followed by another and then another.

After that, it was television! Ruth Buzzi began appearing in many comedy shows. But it was in 1968 when she got a permanent role in a very funny show called Laugh In on NBC. Since then, she has been in MANY television shows and movies including many children’s shows like Sesame Street.

But Ruth Buzzi cares about other things, too. She is a wonderful artist who enjoys painting but she doesn’t sell her paintings. She donates them to charities where many of them have sold for over 6-thousand dollars each! She also works to help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Make a Wish Foundation, Special Olympics, and Big Brothers / Big Sisters of America. In addition, she works hard to help the Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch in Medina, Texas along with other animal rescue causes.

Yes, Ruth Buzzi, the little girl from Rhode Island who always loved acting also loves HELPING children and animals in need. Ruth Buzzi grew up to be a HERO.
