Sarah always looked forward to visits from her aunt. She was Sarah’s favorite aunt because her name was Sarah, too! Aunt Sarah had a really, really good job and she always seemed so happy. Young Sarah wanted to be just like her aunt when she grew up, and this time the two Sarahs had an opportunity for a long serious talk. “What you do with your time now, while you’re in school, will make all the difference in how successful you will be as an adult,” Aunt Sarah said. “You keep saying you want to be like me, well, this is how you do it. Good grades are important, even if you have to work harder than the next person to get them. Always listen carefully, always do your homework thoroughly and neatly. And Sarah, this is important, too—find the kind of friends who will HELP you to become a better person—not friends who just HELP you goof off.” Then Aunt Sarah said, “It’s up to you, girl, you can be a HERO to your own future self, by HELPING the future you to have a better life, or you can choose to hurt the future you, by wasting your time and goofing off now. It’s your choice, so choose well!”

Well, young Sarah had heard all about Aunt Sarah’s childhood, and she knew her aunt was telling the truth. She also knew other grown-ups who had just wasted their time when they were kids, and she could see their lives were not very good now. So the choice for young Sarah was not a hard one. Beginning that day, she was on the path to HELPING, in a big way, her own future self.
