Life Lesson #21 – Stop Bullying!

Mr. Reed’s class was going on a field trip to the science museum. Jessica was all excited about going, because science was her favorite subject. She got into one of the vans and sat down on the second seat right by the side door. That’s when the girl next to her saw a friend and said, “Come sit by me. Jessica was just getting out!” Then she pushed Jessica off the seat and out of the van! Jessica fell to the ground and just sat there for a moment fighting back tears. Well, fortunately, Mr. Reed saw everything that happened. He came over and HELPED Jessica to her feet and gave her a towel to dry her tears. Then he called the other girl out of the van. “Why would you do such a thing?” he demanded. The girl said, “It’s not a big deal, and besides, I wouldn’t cry about it.”

Mr. Reed told the girl that she would not be able to go on the trip, but instead would be sent to the principal’s office and would have to spend her day writing, “I will not hurt others.” five hundred times! Well, the girl cried about that! Later, the principal talked with her for a while. She talked about kindness and about treating other people the way she would want to be treated.
“Hurting people,” the principal said, “never comes to any good. It only brings trouble. But HELPING others—well, that’s a whole different story! Why don’t you try becoming a HERO, instead? You’ll be surprised about how much it HELPS you while you are busy HELPING others!” Well, you know, the girl did start that very day to seriously think about it, and she began that very day to make some changes in the way she was treating other people.
