Life Lesson #5 – Exercise Your Greatest Power.
Shauna and her best friend were always together. They were in the same class at school, and even on weekends, they practically lived together. It was Saturday afternoon. They had gotten permission from both of their moms to do some shopping at the mall, and then go see the newest Disney movie just out in the theaters.
After eating lunch in the food court, the girls hurried to the theater at the other end of the mall. That’s when Shauna’s friend walked over to a large poster on the wall advertising a completely different movie that was also showing. It was rated PG13 and the girls could probably have walked right in with no problem, but Shauna and her mother had already discussed this movie and had agreed that it really wasn’t for kids. “Let’s go see this instead,” said her friend!
Shauna took a deep breath and said, “I think we should stick to the Disney movie. My mom doesn’t want me to see this one.” Her friend said, “What? There’s nothing wrong with this movie and besides that, it’s at the same time as Disney so your mom would never know.” As Shauna stuck to her decision not to go against her mother’s instructions, her friend began to get angry. She started teasing Shauna and calling her a baby.
But Shauna knew this was the right thing to do, so when her friend went ahead and bought a ticket for the PG13 movie, Shauna just called her mom. When her mother heard the whole story, she was so proud of Shauna for not letting the girl talk her into disobeying. She also said that forming habits of doing what she knew to be right was being a HERO to her own future self. Then, Shauna and her mom went to the Disney movie together and had a great time!
