John had two older brothers, twins, Norvell and Lee, and they were very HELPFUL people. The twins were only twenty four years old when the three brothers started working together to HELP build a new home for their parents. They were always doing things like that.
Then the twins went into the military service to HELP protect their country. In the heat of battle one day, their platoon was in serious trouble. Norvell and Lee worked together once again, as they did so well, and they saved a lot of their fellow soldiers. Sadly though, these two HEROES were killed in action.
John so loved his brothers that when his baby girl was born, he named her after the twins as a way to honor them. He named his daughter Norvelee. Everybody loved little Norvelee, and she had a lot of friends in school. But one day, John, her father got a job in another city so Norvelee’s family had to move. She was in the 5th grade.
At her new school, some of the kids had never heard a name like Norvelee, and they began to giggle. Soon they started teasing her about her name. Norvelee was so hurt that she told her mom and dad she wanted to change her name!
Her mother, however, explained to her that the 5th graders who were laughing at her were simply very immature people. She reminded her daughter that if she ever came across a situation where someone else was a little different in some way, she should take the time to learn about that person and HELP that person by saying and doing nice things. She could learn to become a HERO instead.
